The issue of parking spaces has become common place, both to developed and developing countries. In Romania, the problem has a peculiar twist. The development of the automotive industry has been accompanied by inadequate infrastructure measures, which has made drivers devise their own ways to deal with the situation. The methods might not work elsewhere, yet in Romania they are quite practicable.
Parking images reveal not only the citizens’ mentalities and personalities, but also the structure of social wealth distribution, people’s attitudes towards what is common and what is private, as well as their sense of aesthetics. The “Reserved” series is an attempt at perceiving and understanding a human community, through the ways in which people organize their parking spaces.
